The Louisiana Forestry Teachers' Tour allows for educational teachers, the developers of the children's mind, an opportunity to gain insight to the research, development and implementation of Louisiana's #1 agricultural crop: Timber. Through hands-on tours and one-on-one meetings with federal, state, industry and non-industrial forest personnel, informed decisions may be reached through an unbiased process. ¨ Visit various mills in Alexandria area. ¨ All meals and transportation provided once in Alexandria ¨ Learn to use the tools foresters use, including prescribed burning! ¨ Build a network between teachers, foresters, and other resource professionals. ¨ Visit a historic sawmill town/museum. ¨ Sponsorship from the forest industry and professionals allow teachers to attend at no cost. ¨ Earn 3 hours of undergrad credit by enrolling in the LSU course ,EDCI 4900, tuition not encluded in registration. ¨ Earn 30 CLU’s |

The 5-day workshop is a hands-on, on-the-go workshop that is fun, exciting and informative. From touring a lumber mill founded in 1890 to a state-of-the-art paper mill, this tour will exposed you to practically all aspects of forestry in Louisiana. You will have a chance to see Longleaf pine, Pinus palustris, whose natural area once spread from western Louisiana to southern North Carolina. The management approaches utilized for the threatened and endangered Red-Cockaded woodpecker, Dendrocopos borealis. Also, research development areas, logging sites and product manufacturing are part of the informative tour.
